March 23, 2020
Dear NCA Members,
During my first year as Nassau Counselors’ Association President we have seen a few “firsts” in our 38 year history as an organization, although it’s roots stem back to 1955. We had our “first” NCA Executive Board Retreat in August. We had our “first” Professional Development for Admissions Counselors with School Counselors. We will also be running out “first” ever Elementary School Counselor Workshop on April 6, either live and if not, virtually. Unfortunately, however, our “firsts” have now taken on a different twist with our “first” cancellation of the Spring College Fair at Hofstra due to the COVID 19 pandemic that is now sweeping the country. Our priority has now shifted from running events to “how can we help?”
Starting this week on Wednesday, March 25, 2020 at 1pm, NCA is partnering with Nassau BOCES and the Nassau Directors of Guidance to bring counselors together for a weekly check-in. All Nassau County school counselors and our NCA membership will be invited to join a Zoom conference hour every Wednesday at 1pm, to not only share best practices on how to deliver counseling services to students and families, but also to support each other during this difficult and unprecedented time.
NCA remains hopeful that our rescheduled CAP Conference will take place on Monday, June 1, 2020 and our End of Year Celebration at the Heritage Club on Wednesday, June 10, 2020.
Wishing each of you and your family good health and strength as we join hands to persevere through yet another challenge in life together.
