Fall College Expo at SUNY Old Westbury

Picture it…a college gymnasium packed neatly but fully with over 200 colleges, universities and other post-secondary programs at the fingertips of students and families throughout the island and beyond.  In the midst of the crowd of over 2,000 throughout the 3 hour event, counselors and other volunteers wander in search of any guests having questions or just needing a word of confidence that this seemingly overwhelming process is one that they will not endure alone.  Guests leave with bags full of information and smiles as they realize that life after high school just may be possible.

This is an accurate description of the 2017 Nassau Counselors’ Association Fall Expo held on Sunday, September 17th.  Proudly hosted by SUNY Old Westbury, students and families were offered a friendly environment to explore the endless possibilities of life after high school.  Weaved into the expo were expert presentations on pertinent topics such as The College Application Process, Students With Special Needs, NCAA and Financial Aid.  The feedback from families was all positive, only solidifying just why we offer such events as the Fall Expo.

Chaired by Frank Pizzardi and Joy-Anne D’Anca, this event was perhaps our most successful yet.  We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to SUNY Old Westbury for providing us with space and wonderful staff to help us execute this wonderful event.  Gloria Schetty-Plante of Laurel Publications consistently provides us with the colleges signs and scanners to make our guests visit most effective.  But, our event wouldn’t be as successful as if it was not for our outstanding volunteers.  Spearheaded by Donna Orleman, our Volunteer Coordinator, our volunteers allowed this event to run seamlessly and for that we are forever in debt.

So, simply put, thank you.  We will see you next year!
