Events - New Counselor/Intern Workshop

Every year NCA holds a workshop connecting either new counselors or school counseling interns with veterans in the field.

For more information, contact Joe Izzo or Jason Miller.

Nassau Counselors’ Association Intern Workshop was held on March 27, 2017 at New York Institute of Technology. The workshop was moderated by Joe Izzo and Jason Miller from Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK High School and attended by over 30 interns. The interns had the opportunity to ask questions to a panel featuring Dana Rubenstein a School Counselor from Hewlett High School, Regina Agrusa Assistantant Superintendent for Pupil Personnel Services at Swanhaka Central High School, and Jayne Gordon a School Counselor from Oceanside High School.

Attendee Stephanie, a current school counseling intern and a student at NYIT stated “I believe that the NCA Internship Breakfast was an amazing and invaluable event because of all the extremely important information presented. The panel was the perfect combination of school counselors and directors from various backgrounds and districts. I feel confident that I will be able to navigate the interview process successfully and bring to the table a more poised, genuine and knowledgeable self because of this event. Many, many thanks to the panelists and organizers of the NCA Internship Breakfast!”

Nichole a Hofstra student and current intern states “Attending the NCA intern breakfast was an incredible opportunity to collaborate and listen to current counselors across Long Island. The entire panel was informative, sincere, and honest when discussing the interview process, what to know about the school you are applying to, district needs, etc. While the job market is tight, it was reassuring to hear the stories of how each counselor attained their position. From being involved in organizations such as the NCA to being in the right place at the right time, it is all about displaying your strengths and staying connected with those around you. Although the road to landing a job may involve some unexpected twists and turns, it is vital to remain positive and stay focused. You never know where you will end up and who you will meet along the way.”
